Lismore Kart
Club racers
Lachlan
O'Reilly and
Michelle
Attard
headed north
over the
border when
most Lismore
drivers
headed south
to Grafton
last
weekend.
Lachlan and
Michelle
were the
only two NSW
drivers at
the first
round of the
Qld
Supercheap
Series held
at Toowoomba
on the 10th
and 11th of
April, 2010.
The race
format, with
a timed
qualifying
session late
Saturday
afternoon
and three
long 15km
heats on
Sunday at
mid weights
for Junior
National and
Senior
Clubman
classes
ensuring big
fields, lots
of track
time and
tough
competition.
Both
incidentally
were showing
obvious
signs of
carrying
injuries
into the
event, with
each of them
heavily
strapped up
and
bandaged.
Michelle's
shoulder and
wrist still
taped up and
in
rehabilitation
from a crash
at Oran
Park, whilst
Lachlan's
elbow, ribs,
hip, thigh,
knee and
ankle
freshly
bandaged
from a road
cycling
training
fall and
subsequent
trip to the
emergency
department
at the
Grafton
Hospital the
previous
day.
Lachlan
qualified
5th of 17
and Michelle
8th of 24,
with both
showing good
speed
throughout
the weekend
whilst still
coming to
terms with
the tricky
reverse
track
direction
but
ultimately
not able to
match the
home track
experience
of the likes
of locals
Brendan
Nelson and
Tyler
Greenbury in
Clubman Pro
and Scotty
Hines in
Junior
National
Pro. Lachlan
finished
where he
qualified in
5th place,
with
Michelle's
overall
result
spoiled by a
deflating
tyre in race
3 taking her
out of a top
10 overall
finish.
The drive of
the weekend
actually
went to
young
Ipswich
driver, Jack
Wood in
Junior
National
Pro, who
drove from
the rear of
the grid to
win race
three after
an
unfortunate
DNF whilst
making a
move at the
lead in the
latter
stages of
race two.
